  • Aleksei Lokhov

Opening: on the 9-th of October (Friday) at 7 p.m.

D. Alekseev and A. Lokhov project is dedicated to one of the most complication topics of art - Time. Present, Future and Past – their interaction, where there are borders and lines, their features and reason for abilities to changes?

How to connect certain artistic reality where “Past”, “Present” and “Future” exist as some spatial objects? How to touch and mark this line between these three definitions bravely impinging the traditions of Universal Laws?

These searches, these anxieties and at the same time all-enveloping searches of Moscow artists’ long time working in creative tandem are painted with very personal, almost intimate colors. They project new life, provoke new realms in it by creating new artistic reality.

Authors affirm that Time does not flow linearly, “but by labyrinthine plexus of currents; it is featured by chronology and not by knots. Historical names and events are the signs of human moral. These signs do not lose their meaning in Present and Future despite their coming from the Past. We are interested to find out how these signs, these events appear in our modernity, how they are conceived sometimes tearing off the traditions of thinking.”

For a long time artists were searching an appropriate manner, new language and new technique. With new technique (i.e. artistic touch) artists see new realms as if through thin layer of ice where small window “is breaking through” – the one equal to the Whole World by its value. This method of development, melting, fraying allows them to limit the search of time knots in small restricted space – called Time.

“Are our personalities protruding through history, or it is history that protrudes through personality? Sooner or later every artist faces these questions,” the authors of project affirm.

Same as in their earliest joint projects D. Alekseev and A. Lokhov mix different techniques: paintings, graphic arts and photography. In same manner as one event protrudes through another one, one technique protrudes through another. There is nothing fixed, unchangeable, and so after this affirmation artists stop on associations, alliterations, mixing of plots and themes, so creating by these certain “super-real images.” Were they; are they; or they are just prototypes of the Future?
