According to the tradition that took root in recent years, the modern art was defined in opposition to older art, the so-called salon art (which is created today, but does not follow the Modernist tradition). The modern art had its own rules, its own territories and its own taboos. As a result many artists, artistic phenomena, trends and styles were excluded from the realm of the modern art.
Jean-Hubert Martin, who curates the 3rd Moscow Biennale, calls to take a different view of the modern artistic process. He comes forward Against Exclusion – against the division into ‘own’ versus ‘alien’, and his revision is in line with the globalization of the modern world where it is no longer possible to live in isolation, ignoring one’s neighbor.
